“Remembering Right Relationships: Traditional Indigenous and Land-Based Intervention for Gender-Based Violence Research Project.”  – Summer Student Position

Project Research Assistant Coordinator Position   The Creating Hope Society an Indigenous non-profit organization seeking to hire a Research Coordinator Assistant for the summer of 2024. Must be returning to school in September 2024 and be under the age of 30. This position will be reporting directly to the Research Coordinator. This project aims to develop, implement, and measure the effectiveness of Indigenous culture and land-based interventions in reducing gender-based violence (GBV) experienced by Indigenous gender-diverse peoples.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create doodle polls for leadership/advisory meetings
  • Set up meetings (in person or on zoom)
  • Maintain and/or set up social media accounts (mainly FB)
  • Update common drive and binders with activities done or in planning
  • Assist with editing documents
  • Translation of research interviews (or transcription if we don’t have one available)
  • Support the development of promotional materials – i.e. pamphlet style or postcards
  • Taking notes during events to track gaps, what worked well, what didn’t, things people suggested for improvement or what they liked.
  • Create and maintain contact spreadsheet to use across all programs in CHS – such as list of Elders, vendors, drummers, caterers, food trucks

Qualifications/Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of or lived experience working with Indigenous people
  • Knowledge of Indigenous protocols (event based)
  • Knowledge of 2SLGBTQ+ and gender based violence
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills.
  • Computer skills are required
  • Ability to work independently/sound time management skills/strong problem solving skills
  • Relationship Building
  • Must have reliable transportation and current valid Alberta Driver’s License and 2 million insurance and liability coverage
  • Driver’s Abstract required; Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Intervention Check required.
  • Must live in Edmonton, Alberta or the surrounding area.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Indigenous research and research ethics principles is required.
