All net proceeds from this event will be donated to the Creating Hope Society of Alberta, a non-profit focused on breaking the child welfare cycle of indigenous children by supporting, advocating for and educating indigenous mothers and fathers.

Bernadette Iahtail

Bernadette Iahtail is a registered Social Worker, an advocate, researcher, writer, film producer, an entrepreneur, a wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest achievement is co-Founding of Creating Hope Society, a society created to bring awareness of Aboriginal history, specifically to inform Canadians of the ongoing ripple effects of Residential Schools, the 60s and 70s child welfare scoop and today’s Millennium child welfare. Bernadette pushes the envelope of the CHS Declaration “An Aboriginal home for every Aboriginal child in care by 2025”.

As a professional her values are “equality, diversity and inclusion.” In her personal life, her values are “respect, trust, honesty, fairness” and she stands up for what is right. Her spiritual life is understanding that every being wants to be heard, loved and open in finding solutions.

Bernadette has a long distinguished record of achievement and has demonstrated to be an exceptional leader. She is talented, savvy and dedicated to building relationships within the Indigenous and non-Indigenous community.

Dr Mikolaj Raszek

Dr. Mikolaj Raszek is founder and owner of Merogenomics Inc., a consulting company based out of Edmonton helping clients with private access to whole genome sequencing and related technologies. Merogenomics Inc. specializes in cancer DNA profiling, DNA testing for undiagnosed diseases, prenatal screening and sequencing in healthy asymptomatic individuals for preventative assessment.

Dr. Raszek did an undergrad degree in genetics, doctorate degree in biochemistry and postdoctorate work in agricultural genomics, all completed in the beautiful capital of Alberta.

Mikolaj is passionate to educate about genome sequencing, or how we can look into our DNA code to gain important medical insights. Luckily for him, he loves studying science so starting a consulting business in breakthrough scientific technologies seemed like a next logical step.

Kari Weisgerber

Kari Weisgerber is a graduate of the MacEwan Hearing Aid Practitioner program. In her more than 20 years in the industry she has served as the chair of the education committee, been a member of council for the college of hearing aid practitioners and has been the chair of the MacEwan Hearing Aid practitioner education program. Kari founded the company Hear In Edmonton inc. In 2003 which has since grown to 2 full time locations with a satellite office in Wainwright, AB and she also visits many small communities and hospitals in Alberta including 13 Reserves. She finds it very rewarding to bring services to people who have limited access to hearing health.

Kari is passionate about education both for herself and educating her clients. She believes that the better a client understands their hearing loss the more successful they will be in better hearing.

In addition to her professional career Kari has been married for nearly 23 years and is the mother of 2 wonderful girls and 2 Pugs. She has a passion for travel and loves being anywhere there is sunshine, sand and golf greens.

Linda Kowalski

Linda Kowalski is a practicing critical care RN of 39 years. She presently works at the Stollery Hospital with the Complex Pediatric Therapies Follow Up Program for children who have had complex open heart surgery. She is involved with doing the extensive Research to improve outcomes with these children.

Linda has been very active over the years in sports, broomball, soccer, ball hockey, and focuses on running at present. She has a passion to make us aware of the need for a healthier, balanced lifestlye and feels there is a strong need to educate on the present state of our health, particularly of our upcoming generation, our children.

Linda is very passionate in inspiring healthy living to help make a difference and to leave a legacy of bridging the gap with whole food nutrition in prevention of disease and sickness. She is most excited about being aligned with the Juice Plus company for 20 years that has clinical research conducted by researchers at leading universities and hospitals worldwide and published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Amanda Knight

Amanda Knight is passionate about creating great workplace cultures by supporting HR professionals and business leaders to implement an integrated approach to culture change that builds an inclusive workplace.

As an early pioneer of emotional intelligence in the UK, she designed and owns The SRQ – an online assessment and development tool powered by a new level of emotional intelligence that helps individuals explore their ability to truly connect, influence, and empower through the lens of non-judgment of self and others. She also co-authored ‘Applied EI’ published by Wiley in 2006.

As a leadership coach and trainer Amanda helps leaders recognize that leadership is a privilege, not a right. She has worked with hundreds of leaders across a broad range of industries over the last 20 years to help them transform the way they show up, how others experience them, and how they can then influence the people they lead to be the best they can be. She now supports organizations in building diversity and inclusion and is writing her second book on the inclusive workplace and the leadership privilege.

Amanda is a Board Member of the Creating Hope Society.
