Project Coordinator Position
The Creating Hope Society is an Indigenous non-profit organization seeking to hire a project coordinator based in Edmonton, Alberta, titled “Remembering Right Relationships: Traditional Indigenous and Land-Based Intervention for Gender-Based Violence.”
This project aims to develop, implement, and measure the effectiveness of Indigenous culture and land-based interventions in reducing gender-based violence (GBV) experienced by Indigenous women and gender-diverse people.
Hours: 30 to 35 hours per week; hours may vary, including some evenings and weekends
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Build connections with community partners, community service providers and
- Work with our diverse team of researchers, in collaboration with Elders and community advisors, to engage with participants to co-create an array of culture- based GBV interventions that are both land-based (spring/summer/fall) and urban-based (winter).
- Lead participant recruitment and obtain formal consent from
- Map out the logistics of the culture camps, gatherings, peer support program and digital storytelling program.
- Map out the logistics involving data collection sessions, which will be gathered through pre/post-test questionnaires and focus groups (talking, sharing circles).
- Oversee all project communication, such as meeting facilitation and meeting minutes, monitor project email inbox, review letters, proposals, memos, and other
- Write project progress reports and update project Gnatt charts
- Complete research ethics board renewals and amendments throughout the
- Assist the project manager with administrative functions and
- Work with the guided supervision of the project manager and Principal
- The successful candidate will be required to take the OCAP Training Course
- Must attend all in-person and virtual
Qualifications:
- Only applicants with a BA degree in a relevant field (health sciences, sociology, social work, population health) with 3+ years of experience or an MA degree will be considered.
- This position requires a research background in qualitative research, but a background in quantitative research methods is an asset.
- Knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies, Indigenous protocols and working with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
- Training in and four or more years of experience conducting collaborative community-based research, practice, and /or program evaluation with Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples and communities.
- Understanding of GBV for diverse populations, including Indigenous women and LGBTQ2SA+ individuals.
- Must have reliable transportation and a current valid Alberta Driver’s License and 2 million insurance and liability coverage
- Driver’s Abstract required; Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Intervention Check required.
- Must live in Edmonton, Alberta or the surrounding area
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Must have sound knowledge of Indigenous communities in Alberta, be able to make connections and observe key protocols required for community
- Must be self-directed and able to work autonom
- Ability to work well in a team environment and direct others in a non-hierarchical
- Solid written and verbal communication
- Strong organizational and multitasking
- Strong problem-solving
- Effective time management skills and adaptability to
- Skilled in computer programs, data entry and data analysis
- Must be non-judgmental and have previous experience working with diverse groups of people.
- Knowledge and familiarity with Indigenous research and research ethics principles is required.
- Lived Experience preferably.
