Project Manager Position
The Creating Hope Society is an Indigenous non-profit organization seeking to hire a project manager based in Edmonton, Alberta, for a 3-year Canadian Institutes of Health-funded research project titled “Remembering Right Relationships: Traditional Indigenous and Land-Based Intervention for Gender-Based Violence.” Led by Bernadette Iahtail, this project aims to develop, implement, and measure the effectiveness of Indigenous culture and land-based interventions in reducing gender- based violence (GBV) experienced by Indigenous women and gender-diverse people.
Hours: Part-time, 9 hours per week (contract)
Term: 12 months
Hourly wage: $40/hr
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Build connections with community partners, community service providers and collaborators.
- Work with our diverse team of researchers, in collaboration with Elders and community advisors, to engage with participants to co-create an array of culture-based GBV interventions that are both land-based (spring/summer/fall) and urban-based (winter).
- Responsible for utilizing the required knowledge, processes and tools to ensure smooth administrative operations and development of the project.
- Work closely with the project coordinator and research staff to offer direction and guidance, and be well informed of the overlapping parts of the project.
- Responsible for strategic planning to determine short and long-term project goals.
- Work closely with the principal investigator to develop a detailed project financial plan, and manage the budget throughout the project.
- Oversee the logistics of the culture camps, gatherings, peer support program and digital storytelling program with the project coordinator.
- Manage the logistics involving data collection sessions, which will be gathered through pre/post-test questionnaires and focus groups (talking, sharing circles).
- Searching and writing grant proposals for available funding opportunities.
- The successful candidate will be required to take the OCAP Training Course
- Must attend all in-person and virtual meetings.
Qualifications:
- Degree (MA, PhD, PhD (abd)) in a relevant field (health sciences, sociology, social work, population health). BA with five+ years of experience will be considered.
- A research background in qualitative research is required for this position. A background in quantitative research methods is an asset.
- Knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies, Indigenous protocols and working with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
- Training in and four or more years of experience doing collaborative community-based research, practice, and /or program evaluation with Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples and communities.
- Understanding of GBV for diverse populations, including Indigenous women and LGBTQ2SA+ individuals.
- Must have reliable transportation and current valid Alberta Driver’s License and 2 million insurance and liability coverage
- Driver’s Abstract required; Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Intervention Check required.
- Must live in Edmonton, Alberta or the surrounding area
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Must have sound knowledge of Indigenous communities in Alberta, be able to make connections and observe key protocols required for community engagement.
- Must be self-directed and able to work autonomously.Ability to work well in a team environment and direct others non-hierarchically.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Effective time management skills and adaptable to change.
- Grant writing experience.
- Must be non-judgmental and have previous experience working with diverse groups of people.
- Knowledge and familiarity with Indigenous research and research ethics principles are required.
