Important Help for Canadians

Parliament has passed the new COVID-19 Emergency Response Act, ensuring that Canada has the tools and flexibility to respond quickly to these emerging challenges.

This includes the new Canada Emergency Response Benefit, which will provide $2000 a month for the next 4 months to workers who lose their income as a result of COVID-19.

The measures outlined in the Act will provide immediate help to the Canadian workers, businesses, and families that need it most, including:

Canada’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Plan

  • Direct payment to support low- and modest-income families
  • Helping seniors access retirement savings by reducing minimum withdrawals from RRIFs by 25%
  • Up to $300 more per child for parents through the Canada Child Benefit
  • $2,000/month for Canadians who lose income due to COVI D-19 through the Canada Emergency Response Benefit
  • Temporary wage subsidy for small employers to help keep employees on the payroll
  • Prevent shortages of patented drugs or medical devices
  • Pause repayments of Canada Student Loans for six months
  • $500 million to support provinces and territories in dealing with COVID-19
  • Support businesses as necessary through EDC, BOC and Farm Credit Canada
  • Giving more financial space to Canadians and Canadian businesses by deferring tax payments
  • Protect Canadians’ homes by strengthening the mortgage financing market
