Cultural Support Worker – Youth, Elder, and Parents Cultural Support Program-(YEP)-Paul First Nation
Salary based on Experience
Creating Hope Society is an Indigenous non-profit organization that works with children, youth and families that have been impacted by the 60’s Scoop and supporting families that have been impacted by child welfare. Our mission is to create hope for positive change, mend hearts, and contribute to reconciliation through healing the impacts of intergenerational trauma and reconnecting with culture and community.
Position Summary: Under the general direction of the Executive Director/ Program Manager, the Cultural Support Worker serves as an ally to mentor and guide a cultural base program called the Youth, Elder and Parent Cultural Support Program (YEP). This position is a full-time salary position for 35 – 40 hours a week.
Responsibilities:
- Creating a positive mentoring relationship with individuals (children, youth and families) that are referred to our program through Child and Family Services. This includes monthly to twice monthly visits, engaging in check-ins, resource sharing, cultural programming, and community activities
- Communicating through text, email and phone calls with families, CFS workers, and additional individuals that are a part of the child’s team
- Meeting participants either in-home or transporting participants to and from events in the community
- To maintain participant files and perform administrative duties related to the program.
- To ensure reporting requirements including monthly reports, mid-year reports and yearly program summaries and community updates
- To provide sharing circles for families
- To participate in other Creating Hope Society activities and events such as round dances, community outreach, blanket exercise and more
- To perform other related duties as assigned by the Executive director/ Program Manager
Qualifications and Experience:
- To have a sound understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture and issues
- Will possess a sound understanding of Indigenous child welfare issues and the effects of children in care
- Being able to meet children and youth where they are at, create positive relationships and build connections
- Be able to create and maintain professional connections to local First Nations Bands and community resources
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in counseling and case planning
- Knowledge in de-escalation techniques
- Have relevant work experience in the area of child welfare, family support, program and case management, and support for vulnerable clientele
Requirements:
- Diploma or post-secondary degree in human services, preference given to those with a Social Work/ Child and Youth Care worker degree or those with experience working within child welfare or justice
- Access to a reliable vehicle
- 2 million LPD
